Just a quick update. I have had a number of people ask if they could help with repairs or med bills. Shy of the left / front shifter being a bit whacked the wheel turned out good and everything elae I should be able to get working at home. Medical wise insurance will hopefully cover xrays and such that I got in John Day Oregon. I know there are still donations to the charity coming in and that would be my biggest wish is that my goal would be met. It’s a real stretch now that I am off the bike for a few weeks. But who knows??? At least I’ll have Bike for Heroes to occupy my cycling mind. Thanks to all who have donated so far.

I have been headed home since Saturday night. I am frustrated by the events this year, thankful but frustrated. As I sit in the bus and have rested a few days now I still can tell that there needs to be rat and slow physical additions to get the ole leg back to normal. That does not stop the second guessing and the desire to get back to an adventure.
I guess what it comes to is I love bicycling and sharing that passion with the JCS Heroes and everyone else that participated in Bike For Heroes (July 20) this year. It is the same cause that I had been riding for over the last week it just has more riders. Consider coming out for that event. You can can sign up on www.ms-stride.org/jcsbikeforheroes it was a tough call but the strain that the car encounter did to the inside of my left leg has caught up with me. When the mirror caught me just after Mackenzie pass turnoff it knocked me hard to the right and as I came off my pedals the left was torqued pretty hard clipped in. I thought at first everything was just some muscle aches but there are sharp pains in my knee, calf, and ankle. These thing will heal in time I’m sure. When I was at the ER in John Day I’m sure the Dt saw my stubbornness when I was goi g to ride another 13 miles at 10:30 pm to get to the next town. She said I would probabaly have some tough decisions to make in the next few days and here I am.
thank you to all who made donations to the Joshua Chamberlain Society regardless of my performance the money given to them is used to support Veterans who will have to face their injuries the rest of their life. it has been a long hard day and it is not quite over yet. I decided to get a dr. Opinion on my knee and ankle/ calf. I have been struggle since the car took me out and just need to get things looked at. I have been having a really hard time climbing. Hopefully wverything checks out out and I can get moving again. I am trying to stay ahead of the coming weather system and get into Idaho / Montana in the next couple days below is the kind of shoulders you have to deal with long climb over Santiam pass. Maybe a good 50 miles of nonstop climbing. Bike seems to be in good shape. I’m struggling a bit with my left knee LEF ankle and left shoulder. All courtesy of the car clipping me.
i have a few aches and pains that I hope subside.
I need to to give an extra special thanks to the guys at Hutch’s bike shop in Springfield Oregon. They fixed everything up great. Tried wheels, straightened Derailure hangar. I should be back on the road soon. i am working on getting the bike going this morning. I’ll probably go to a local shop to get a good wheel true and get rid of this clicking noise in the gears. The good thing is when I was getting food last night a was talking to a guy that will give me a lift to where I got got so I can start from that point. That will be later this afternoon. I should be able to make Sisters by night.
most of you might have noticed I am back in Eugene instead of Sisters. Just after the turnoff to MackenIe highway I got clipped by a car mirror in this blind curve. I’m pretty sore but no worse for wear. I have a few repairs I am going to make to the bike. That should keep it going. i got a hotel for the night to try and get things back in order
good long day yesterday. I ended up with some kind of food sickness “not good”. I needed about 20,000 calories and when you can eat anything it gets tough. Hopefully the worst of it is over. Comfortable sleep spot but wow was it cold. I am still shaking.
Hopefully the food thing is out of my system and I can start eating better. Long day ahead |
