safety check is complete. Briefing is at 7:30. Just getting my emergency burritos bought and pedaling around town a bit until then. The race begins at 5:00am pt. The speeds are not to exciting on the way out but there are 4200 miles to go. Mackenzie pass is closed so there is an alternate to go around. Mackenzie pass has been my nemesis and maybe going around will make a big difference. Happy dot watching.
the first pic is all my winter clothes, rain gear, and sleeping gear. The second pic is all the bags on the bike front is hygiene, first aid, and supplements. The back is tools, spare tire etc. , and all the clothing. Ready for check in this afternoon.
this was cool I hopped on this trolley this morning and the conductor mentioned it was made in St. Charles in 1913 this is right outside my room also.
this is the view from my hotel room. This bridge is really cool crazy tall so ships can go under it. It is great to see donations coming in already and thanks to those who have given to JCS already. It is great motivation to see it climbing. Once I start riding it is a real motivator to see it go
up everyday. i made it To Astoria around lunchtime went and got my bike assembled it looks like everything’s ready to go. I’m just gonna sit around and relax kind of go through packing and repacking make sure everything fits right. Tomorrow is bike inspection and pre-race meeting and then we’re off on Sunday
made it to Portland around 12:30 am pacific. Now for a couple hours of sleep before I catch my bus. The deboarding of the plane was strange everyone sat in their seat till it got to them then they stood up got their bag from the overhead and would then go. It took forever.
i am now in Denver waiting for the next leg to Portland. I should be sleeping comfortably by 1:00am pacific
Today one of the JCS Heroes and I rode 80 miles of the Bike for Heroes route to check out the course, to get a long training day, and for a little adventure.
Bike for Heroes is a community ride that raises donations for the Joshua Chamberlain Society. Josh Eckhoff and I have done this for the last few years together, it is always a great adventure whether we get stuck in a cold rain or this year having to ride through a bit of flooding. The pavement was as smooth as glass and you could inline skate the route if you wanted to. Thursday I fly to Oregon for TABR. |
